If Puget Sound Energy supplies your electricity or natural gas, you may be able to get money back on some of the most useful upgrades for an older home: insulation, air sealing and duct work.
What may qualify
- Attic insulation
- Floor insulation over crawl spaces
- Wall insulation
- Attic and crawl space air sealing
- Duct sealing and duct insulation
- Certain ventilation improvements
Programs change, and amounts depend on the improvement, the condition of the house before the work, and the size of the project. We check what's currently offered during the inspection.
Who qualifies
You need to be a qualifying PSE residential electric or natural gas customer. The standard program covers single-family homes, buildings of four units or fewer, and manufactured homes. Larger multifamily buildings go through separate programs.
If you live somewhere PSE supplies only part of your energy, like Tacoma, where electricity comes from Tacoma Public Utilities but gas comes from PSE, eligibility usually depends on which fuel heats your home.
How it usually works
For qualifying weatherization projects, the rebate is generally applied directly to the contractor's invoice. You see the lower price up front rather than paying in full and waiting for a check.
Getting the most from it
The best projects combine several improvements. Sealing the attic floor, adding insulation, and sealing ducts in the crawl space at the same time costs less than doing them separately, and the house feels the difference more.
